New women only gym sessions in Bloomsbury Fitness

Bloomsbury Fitness is launching women only gym sessions on International Women’s Day. The women only sessions will run every Sunday evening from 19:15 – 21:00 and every Wednesday morning from 07:30 – 09:30.

The initiative was brought to life by the Students’ Union UCL Women’s Officer, Abeni, and the Welfare and International Officer, Rothna, in partnership with Bloomsbury Fitness. Research by the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation states that women may be conscious about how they look when exercising and can be put off from exercising in male-dominated spaces like gyms. Alongside the Project Active campaign, running women only sessions is another way how Students’ Union UCL and Bloomsbury Fitness aim to attract more women in participating in physical activity. Bloomsbury Fitness is also a proud supporter of This Girl Can, the nationwide campaign that gets women and girls moving up and down the country.

Exercise is not only great for your physical health, it’s also so important for your overall wellbeing and mental health. When I came into post, I really wanted to push for making the gym more accessible for women by turning some hours during the week into women's only sessions so that we could provide a more comfortable and relaxed environment for women to work out.

The women only sessions will run twice a week and the entire gym floor (reception staff and instructors) will be staffed by female staff only. We’ll gradually add female only gym classes and Project Active sessions during these women-only opening hours too.

If you’re not a member of the gym already, your first women only session is completely free, all women only gym sessions thereafter are £4 and include a free Project Active class.
